Drunken Boat #26
Overview
I collaborated on the design and development of Drunken Boat Issue 26, a digital publication of Drunken Boat, one of the world's longest-running electronic literary journals. Since 1999, the journal has showcased experimental literature, poetry, visual art, film, and interactive digital works, using the web itself as a creative medium.
Issue 26 explores themes of statelessness through essays, poetry, photography, film, and interactive multimedia. The project challenged our team to create a digital experience that honored the publication's experimental nature while remaining intuitive, accessible, and visually engaging.
My contributions centered on the Born Digital and A.K. Ramanujan sections of the website. I led much of the UX/UI design process by creating high-fidelity prototypes and user flows in Figma, helping establish the site's navigation, visual hierarchy, and overall interaction design before development began. I then translated those designs into responsive web pages, focusing on immersive layouts that showcased multimedia content without sacrificing usability.
Beyond the website itself, I also designed promotional posters and social media graphics to support the launch of Issue 26, extending the publication's visual identity across digital platforms. This project strengthened my skills in UX design, prototyping, front-end development, and digital branding while demonstrating how thoughtful design can enhance the experience of literary and artistic storytelling.
